Teaching

I have taught across a range of disciplines – History of Art, Philosophy, Visual Culture, Culture Theory, and Fine Art at Undergraduate and Postgraduate Levels. My teaching interests are broad, and include everything from Contemporary Art theory and practice to 20th century continental philosophy and critical theory to early modern visual culture and art historiography. I’ve held lecturing posts in departments of Art History, Fine Art and Design, and Philosophy, at The University of Exeter, Goldsmiths College, Central Saint Martins School of Art and Design, and Kingston University.

I am currently Lecturer in Contemporary Art Theory and Practice at Edinburgh College of Art, University of Edinburgh, where I am course coordinator for Undergraduate 1st year Visual Culture. I am passionate about the teaching of theory within contexts of practice, and also teach on the BA Fine Art Painting programme as a Studio tutor. I have just introduced a new course on ‘Materials and Techniques. Art History as Artistic Production’ which introduces BA Hons students to art history as the material and technical genesis of art works. I also teach Art Theory and Philosophy of Art at Postgraduate level, and supervise PhD’s.

I have been invited to teach and lectures at numerous Institutions nationally and internationally, including: Trondheim Academy of Fine Arts, Norway, The Royal College of Art, London, the Orpheus Institute, Ghent, the Tata Institute, Mumbai, and the ICA, London. For more information on talks I’ve given please see the ‘Lectures and Conferences’ page on this site.
